Based in Mexico City, Murillo Tavares is the leader of the Marketing Officer Practice in Latin America. He is also an active member of Spencer Stuart’s Consumer and Business & Professional practices. Murillo brings 13 years of experience in the food and beverage industry in Brazil, Mexico and China. In addition, Murillo advises several of the most active private equity and venture capital firms in the region.

Extensive international experience in major developing markets

  • Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Murillo was the vice president of integration and business solutions (IBS) for Anheuser-Busch InBev in the Asia Pacific region. He oversaw the post-merger integration of the company’s regional acquisitions, including Budweiser China, Harbin Breweries and four smaller breweries. He also developed AB InBev’s business and route-to-market (RTM) strategies in China.
  • Previously, Murillo worked for Grupo Modelo in Mexico, where he served as the CEO of the retail division and the sales director for modern trade.
  • Murillo co-founded and served as CEO of, the largest e-commerce operation in Latin America controlled by the 3G, with an IPO in 2006. Prior to that, he was the co-founder and principal at Gradus Management Consultants in Brazil, leading turnarounds for private equity companies. He started his professional career at McKinsey & Company in both the Sao Paulo and Madrid locations.

Murillo has a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering from the Brazilian Aeronautics Technological Institute and an M.S.M. in strategy and operations from MIT Sloan School of Management. He also has professional course certificates in venture capital management from Haas Business School at University of California Berkeley, and in big data management from MIT Sloan School. A native Portuguese speaker, Murillo is also fluent in Spanish and English.
