Jill Kernan is a lawyer and a core member of Spencer Stuart’s Legal, Compliance & Government Affairs Practice, as well as the firm’s Global Insurance Practice. She specializes in general counsel and other senior legal and compliance searches, along with succession planning, assessment and leadership development projects. Jill’s work spans industries, including insurance and broader financial services, consumer goods and retail, life sciences and healthcare, and industrial.
Extensive legal and compliance search expertise
- Jill brings deep experience in legal and compliance executive searches, recruiting general counsel/chief legal officers as well as direct reports to the general counsel, with particular depth in corporate secretary and chief securities counsel, chief compliance officer and deputy/divisional general counsel assignments.
- Jill has led searches for a range of clients, from global Fortune 50 organizations to small/mid-cap and private-equity-backed companies. Her clients turn to her for trusted counsel, deep market knowledge and relationships, and steadfast commitment to finding the right leadership solutions.
- In addition to her search work, Jill spent seven years as the associate practice leader for the Legal, Compliance & Government Affairs Practice at Spencer Stuart, overseeing the associates, analysts and practice needs for the team in partnership with the global practice leaders.
- Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Jill was a lawyer with the Philadelphia law firm of Ansa Assuncao, where she specialized in defense litigation. She was licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Jill earned her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, with high honors, and her B.A. in English with a minor in marketing from The College of New Jersey, graduating summa cum laude.
