Ever since the formation of its Board Practice, Spencer Stuart has been promoting the cause of women on boards globally, placing more than 1,100 women on boards around the world.

In the UK, we have been actively seeking out women with the potential to sit on boards, both in the UK and abroad, for many years. In 2011 we were signatories to the original Voluntary Code for Executive Search Firms and remain so for the 2014 edition of the Code, which we helped to draft.

We are committed to helping our UK clients increase the effectiveness of their boards and one of the ways they achieve this is through diversity in all its forms. We have a strong track record of finding and placing outstanding women from all walks of life on the boards of a wide range of organisations, from FTSE 100 and 250 companies to subsidiaries, private businesses, regulatory bodies and in the not-for-profit sector.

We are involved in a variety of initiatives to improve the visibility of female board candidates and to increase the presence of women at board level. These range from Directors’ Forum, a unique development programme for new and prospective directors, to WomenCorporateDirectors (WCD), a global membership organization and community of women corporate directors, with whom we partner in the UK and globally.

We also publish on the theme of board diversity, Women in Business and Becoming a non-executive director (a guide for those considering a board directorship in the future).
