Steven Willekens is based in Spencer Stuart’s Shanghai office and focuses on the firm’s Leadership Advisory Services in China. Steven’s work centers on diagnosing and changing culture at the organizational, team and individual levels; working with senior executives on analyzing and developing their leadership capabilities; and illuminating and enhancing the dynamics of both team and organizational effectiveness.

Organizational development and transformation expertise

  • Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Steven was director of the multinational corporation (MNC) sector Greater China at Hay Group, where he supported his clients in the areas of organization effectiveness and leadership development.
  • From 2003 to 2010, Steven served as a principal consultant with Magnitude Consulting, an Amsterdam-based strategy consultancy firm.
  • Steven started his career as lecturer to international master’s students in the field of organization science at Maastricht University, Netherlands. He has authored numerous publications on various business, organization and leadership topics, including a recent publication in Harvard Business Review about the position of MNCs in China.
  • Steven has worked with clients in a wide range of sectors, including fast-moving consumer goods, retail, pharmaceutical, chemical, high tech, banking, insurance, automotive and manufacturing.

Originally from the Netherlands, Steven has lived and worked in China for the last four years. He also spent nearly a year traveling throughout Asia performing humanitarian work for a foster home. Steven speaks Dutch, English, German and Mandarin. He holds a master’s degree in international economics from Maastricht University, Netherlands.
