Marco Acerra is a member of Spencer Stuart’s Board and CEO Advisory, Financial Services and Private Equity practices, and leads Spencer Stuart’s Restructuring Practice, focusing on recruiting directors and executives to companies in, or emerging from, financial distress. Marco has led more than a hundred projects for companies emerging from bankruptcy, recruiting directors to new boards, advising creditor groups taking control of companies on board composition and selection, and strengthening management teams of companies that have completed restructurings (both in- and out-of-court). He also has experience recruiting investment professionals to buy-side roles, as well as other senior leaders to various positions at private equity and credit investment firms.
Extensive background in restructuring, special situations, alternative credit and corporate governance
- Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Marco was a managing director in the restructuring and debt advisory group at Evercore. In this role, he advised both corporate clients and creditor committees on out-of-court restructurings, Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganizations and distressed financings.
- Prior to Evercore, Marco held positions of similar responsibility in the restructuring groups at Goldman Sachs and Houlihan Lokey in London.
Marco is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Italy and is a native speaker of Italian and English, fluent in French and conversational in German. He has lived in the U.S. and the U.K., working across multiple geographies. Marco earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University and his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.
