Building upon 20 years of best-in-class senior-level retail experience, Kim McKesson co-leads Spencer Stuart’s global Retail Practice and also leads the firm's Chicago office. She is an active member of the broader global Consumer Practice and the Private Equity Practice, applying her search experience to recruiting top portfolio company leaders. Kim has led more than 200 engagements for clients worldwide, including CEO, board director and functional leadership searches as well as in-depth assessments of management teams. Distinctive efforts on behalf of their clients have earned Kim and her team Spencer Stuart’s Lou Rieger Quality Award.
Firsthand retail leadership experience
- Working broadly across retail, Kim supports clients’ strategic needs by helping them find the right leaders to drive both high-growth and mature businesses. She has partnered with a wide range of clients, from retailers with revenues of less than $100 million to the world’s largest retailers, spanning all segments from discount to mass to luxury.
- Before joining Spencer Stuart, Kim was the executive vice president and chief marketing and merchandising officer for Smith & Hawken, a multichannel specialty retailer of aspirational outdoor living and gardening products. In this role, she was responsible for all aspects of merchandising and marketing, supporting retail, web, catalog, trade and licensing.
- Kim also enjoyed a nearly 20-year career at The Home Depot, which included several senior leadership roles in marketing and merchandising, and culminated in her role as senior vice president of store merchandising for the home improvement giant.
- Drawing on her extensive experience in strategic planning, leadership development and talent management, Kim has been a featured speaker at numerous retail events and conferences, including the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council Executive Program affiliated with The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, the Retail and Luxury Goods Conference at Harvard Business School, and the National Retail Federation National Conference.
Kim holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Pepperdine University.
