Kate Watson builds consensus among senior leaders and guides multifaceted organizations through leadership, organizational and business challenges. As a consultant within Spencer Stuart’s global Sports Practice and as a member of the firm’s Consumer Practice, she brings firsthand knowledge of sports league operations, executive decision-making, strategic advisory work and stakeholder management at the board, CEO and c-suite levels.
Kate leverages her extensive network and deep industry insight to guide clients through executive search, leadership assessment, succession planning and broader advisory engagements. She is recognized for her consultative approach to problem-solving, intellectual rigor and natural ability to build trusted relationships across the global sports landscape.
Building high-performance leadership and winning organizational cultures
- As a senior vice president for the NHL, Kate led labor and employment matters for a workforce of approximately 1,900 employees across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. She played a central role in shaping workforce strategy, advising on enterprise risk and driving key organizational initiatives that supported long-term growth and operational consistency.
- As a trusted advisor to senior executives across the NHL, Kate regularly advised on strategy, risk management and a broad range of business, legal and organizational matters, including employee relations, compliance, investigations, and stakeholder-sensitive issues.
- She built a strong foundation in labor and employment law during her early career as an associate at leading New York law firms, including Blank Rome LLP and Locke Lord LLP (now Troutman Pepper Locke).
Kate earned her J.D., cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Law, Technology & the Internet, and her B.A. from the University of Michigan. In 2025, she was selected as a Sports Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree. As the mom of three young girls, Kate is especially committed to advocating for women in sports.
