John Harpole is a New York-based member of the Financial Services and Asset Management practices. John has more than twenty years of advisory and institutional investment experience encompassing public equities, alternative- and real-assets.

Diverse investment and advisory experience

  • John comes to Spencer Stuart from an investment consulting firm, advising primarily nonprofit organizations. Prior to that, John was the founder and owner of a FINRA-registered alternative-asset advisory firm that originated and executed diverse client mandates in the U.S. and abroad.
  • John advised alternative-asset fund sponsors as a senior project manager in J.P. Morgan Chase’s Private Fund Group. Prior to his advisory roles John was a vice president with J.P. Morgan Investment Management where he managed liquid and illiquid investments within a broad, multi-sector portfolio under an absolute return mandate. Prior to graduate school, John worked as an equity securities analyst for the State of Wisconsin Investment Board.
  • Earlier in his career, John served as a Foreign Service officer in the U. S. Department of State. John served on assignment in Washington, D.C. and as a vice consul and staff-aide to the American ambassador in Bogotá, Colombia.

A native of Wisconsin, John earned his bachelor’s degree in government at Dartmouth College. Returning from abroad, John earned his M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. John is active in several social and charitable organizations in New York, including service as a trustee of the Isaac H. Tuttle Fund, which provides stipendiary support to seniors and grants to organizations committed to serving New York City’s elder population.
