Jackie Arends co-leads Spencer Stuart’s Aviation, Aerospace & Defense Practice, leading the aerospace and defense side globally. She also specializes in board services and CEO succession planning searches. She brings more than 20 years of senior-level Washington, political and U.S. government experience to the firm. She is a member of the firm’s Board and global Industrial practices. Jackie also leads the firm's government relations team, specializing in both federal and global senior-level searches across industries.
Significant public service experience
- Jackie served as special assistant and key advisor to George W. Bush, the President of the United States, and was responsible for the selection and appointment of the deputy secretary, undersecretaries and assistant secretaries as well as members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Defense Facilities Nuclear Safety Board. Earlier in her career, Jackie advised President George H.W. Bush on appointments to the presidential boards and commissions.
- Her portfolio included the Departments of Defense, Energy, Homeland Security, State and Veterans Affairs, Arms Control and the Disarmament Agency, as well as national security agencies such as the CIA and NASA. Additionally, she was responsible for all national security boards and commissions including members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board. Earlier in her career, Jackie worked for U.S. Senator Larry Pressler and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as a senior legislative assistant for foreign relations and defense.
- Previously, Jackie was an attorney with Kutak Rock in Washington, D.C. She also served as a congressional affairs specialist for the law firm of Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson and Hand.
Jackie received her J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law and is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont. She is fluent in German, French and Danish. Jackie also is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the Maryland Bar and the Supreme Court Bar. Jackie was awarded the Secretary of Defense Award for Outstanding Public Service and the Secretary of the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award.
