David Cranwell has a strong and diverse background in business leadership roles in Australia, Asia Pacific, North America and Europe. He leads the Australian arm of both Spencer Stuart’s global Industrial and Healthcare practices and is also a member of the Private Equity and Board practices. David draws on firsthand experience as a former CEO and nonexecutive director, with an appreciation of the challenges posed by ongoing changes in industry dynamics, M&A activity, customer demands and relevant technologies.
Extensive global management experience
- Over the course of more than two decades, David built a career in supply chain management, culminating in his role as managing director of a global logistics company servicing every industry sector through his warehouse, rail, aviation, road and maritime assets.
- Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, David spent 11 years in a leading global logistics and health company in a number of roles, including director of development; CEO of Asia covering China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia; CEO of the global logistics business; and lead executive responsible for pharmaceutical, retailing and distribution.
- During his time in the healthcare sector, David played an active industry role, serving as president of the National Pharmaceutical Services Association and chairman of the Medicines Partnership of Australia.
- Earlier, David was an associate director at CS First Boston, working in both the equity market and investment banking disciplines, specialising in the transport practice.
David's career began in the shipping industry, commencing as a deck cadet and concluding as a master in command and fleet superintendent with the Australian National Line. He has a Master of Nautical Science from RMIT University in Australia and an M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Management at the University of Melbourne.
