Located in the Boston office, Steve Kelner works with global clients across industries to improve their talent management strategies and individual executive development programs. Over his career, Steve has partnered with many organizations to help them improve development efforts and make better leadership selection decisions. With extensive expertise in executive capability, motivation and leadership evaluation, Steve plays an integral role in the development and execution of the firm’s approach to assessment. He has written extensively on leadership and motivation, with specific attention to board, CIO, CFO and chief counsel positions, as well as the role of creativity in leadership performance.

Strong assessment expertise

  • Steve most recently served more than 10 years in the leadership strategy services practice of another global executive search firm, where he led the development and execution of executive assessment and development services in collaboration with colleagues around the world.
  • Previously, Steve built and led a consulting and training organization for WebCT, then the industry-leading web-based platform for higher education.
  • Earlier, Steve ran the consulting arm of an executive consortium dedicated to quality management. He began his career with Hay/McBer, where he served as a senior consultant and director of new products and services.

Steve holds a Ph.D. in personality psychology from Boston University and a master’s of education degree in human development and psychology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, as well as a bachelor of arts in psychology and social relations from Harvard University.
