Martin Tang is a consultant in Spencer Stuart’s Hong Kong office and is a member of many of the firm’s practices, including its Education, Nonprofit & Public Policy Practice. Martin’s recruiting expertise is broadly based and spans senior-level and chief executive assignments in the public and private sectors, banking and commerce. Within the Education, Nonprofit & Public Policy Practice, he specializes in working for preeminent academic and research institutions.
Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Martin ran another international executive search firm in Hong Kong. He was an executive director of Techno-Ventures (Hong Kong), a leading venture capital firm, from 1986 to 1988. Early in his career, he worked with the Bank of America in San Francisco and Taiwan. He then served as an executive director of the publicly listed South Sea Textile Manufacturing Co. in Hong Kong and Indonesia.
Martin is a trustee of Cornell University, a member of the MIT Corporation and was the 112th president of the MIT Alumni Association from 2006 to 2007. He has been appointed by the Hong Kong government to a number of positions, and is currently a member of the University Grants Committee and the Professional Services Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. For six years, he was a council member of the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology and was subsequently a member of the University Court. Martin also is a director of publicly listed CEI Contract Manufacturing Pte., Singapore, and was formerly chairman of Midas Printing Group and a director of Tristate Holdings, both listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. He is a commitee member and former president of the German Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, serves on the Asia Society’s Hong Kong Center’s Advisory Council and the Board of Governors of Junior Achievement, Hong Kong.
He holds an M.S. from the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as a B.S. in electrical engineering from Cornell University.
