John Ware is a consultant in Spencer Stuart's Technology, Communications & Media Practice. He previously served as manager of Spencer Stuart’s Silicon Valley office in San Mateo, during which time office revenues doubled. John also has worked in the firm’s Chicago, Hong Kong, Tokyo and San Francisco offices. He is fluent in Japanese and, as a founder of the Tokyo office, remains active in the Asia Pacific region and serves as Spencer Stuart’s Asian liaison on the West Coast. John also is the managing editor of Spencer Stuart's Silicon Valley Board Index, an annual survey and analysis of corporate governance trends of the top 100 technology companies in Silicon Valley.
The majority of John’s work focuses on board of director, CEO and C-level recruitments for infrastructure software and services, software, storage and mobile technologies and services companies. Specifically, he has recruited senior-level executives for Airwave Wireless, America Online, Apple Computer, Good Technology, Hitachi Data Systems, Handspring, JDS Uniphase, Nvidia, Palm, PalmSource, Rambus, Tropos Networks and Visto. In addition, John also has been active in recruiting partners for private equity firms, including Apax Venture Partners, Charles River Ventures and Norwest Venture Partners.
Prior to joining Spencer Stuart in 1985, John led two international affairs organizations focused on U.S.-Japan trade and economic relations. He graduated from Williams College with a bachelor of arts degree in religion and holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School.
