Based in San Francisco, Mark Yowe is a member of the firm’s Life Sciences Practice. His search work focuses on senior leadership positions in the medical technology, diagnostics, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare information technology and health services areas. He previously led the Medical Technology Practice for the firm. Additionally, Mark also is active in recruiting directors for health care company boards.
Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Mark was the global practice managing partner of healthcare for another major international search firm. He also served as managing partner of an office and a practice leader in a number of healthcare sub-groups within that firm. Before his 14 years in executive search, Mark was a founding member of two early-stage companies in Northern California: a managed care services company with a focus on diagnostic imaging and a medical device company. Both were successfully sold to larger public companies.
Mark also served as an executive vice president in a multi-hospital system, where he held operating responsibility for a portfolio of healthcare businesses, which included a hospital supply company, a clinical reference laboratory, an imaging center, a lithotripsy business, and a home care company. Mark began his business career with American Hospital Supply Corporation (now Baxter), where his career led to vice president roles in two divisions over an eight-year period.
He is a member of the advisory board of Osprey Ventures, a venture capital firm, and VitalWear, a medical device company. Mark is also a member of the regional council of MedShare International, a non-profit organization, which provides vital medical supplies and equipment to economically developing countries by recycling unneeded surplus from U.S. manufacturers, distributors and healthcare systems.
