Susan Boren brings a broad range of board and general management experience to her client work. She is an active member of Spencer Stuart's Board Services, Life Sciences and Education, Nonprofit & Public Policy practices. Her recent assignments have included CEOs and board members for CARE USA, Habitat for Humanity International, The Kresge Foundation, The Minnesota Orchestral Association, Trinity Health Systems, The Bush Foundation, The University of Minnesota Foundation, and Fairview Health Systems. Susan manages the firm’s Minneapolis/St. Paul office.
Susan's expertise in governance has been particularly helpful to Spencer Stuart clients whose boards are undergoing significant transition — either in size, composition or in beginning to work with a new CEO.
Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Susan was president of her own consulting company, where she advised CEOs and boards of directors in the areas of leadership and governance. For 15 years, Susan was a senior executive with Target Corporation. Prior to her consulting and retailing careers, Susan worked in manufacturing and banking.
Susan currently serves as lead director of Valspar Corporation, a NYSE firm. She is also a member of Spencer Stuart’s board of directors. Susan is active in the Twin Cities community as a director of the Minnesota Opera and a life time director of Minnesota Public Radio. Susan co-founded the Dorobo Fund for Tanzania, a charitable foundation that supports education and leadership development in Africa.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Antioch College and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Dayton.
