Poland Board Index 2017

In this first edition of the Spencer Stuart Poland Board Index, we review board composition, structure and governance practice in the WIG20 index, the 20 largest companies by market capitalisation on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Our purpose is to provide business leaders with a snapshot of current practice on Polish boards. In addition to data for each WIG20 company, we publish a detailed chart showing how the WIG20 index compares with leading companies in the US and other European markets on a key range of governance measures. These international comparisons are based on analysis published annually by Spencer Stuart in its national Board Index programme.

Highlights of the Poland Board Index 2017 include:

  • 20% of non-executive directors in WIG20 companies are foreign
  • 21% of board members are women (as are 27% of directors appointed in the past 12 months)
  • 12% of senior management board positions are held by women.
  • The average retainer for non-executive directors was PLN142,000
  • The average total fee paid to chairmen was PLN 207,119
