Gretchen Anderson, a consultant in Spencer Stuart’s Philadelphia office and member of the firm’s Leadership Advisory Services Practice, is passionate about helping leaders to see the energy and opportunity within their organization’s cultures. She has nearly 20 years of global, cross-industry experience advising organizations and their leaders on the complex relationship between individual motivation and performance. She writes, speaks and advises senior teams on these topics. Gretchen is the co-author (with Jon Katzenbach and James Thomas) of the acclaimed book, The Critical Few: Energize Your Company’s Culture by Choosing What Really Matters (Berrett Koehler 2019).
Leadership development and organizational culture expert
- Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Gretchen was director at the Katzenbach Center, PwC’s global institute on leadership and organizational culture. For eight years, she worked with client teams and guided the Center through two acquisitions.
- Gretchen has held commercial roles both within a strategy firm and as an independent advisor and coach. She also spent two years in executive search.
Gretchen holds a Bachelor of Art in English from Middlebury College, and spent one year of undergraduate at St. Hugh's College at Oxford University. She completed her Ph.D. in literature at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
