    Description of course
The Ashridge MBA is designed for people with a minimum of five years' management experience. The two options recognise the different patterns that careers can take. The one-year option is for people who have achieved success in their work to date, but wish to make a significant change in direction (change industry sector, move into a new discipline, start their own company) or who are able to devote a year to their MBA.

The two-year and European partnership options are for people whose organisation will support them through an MBA – at minimum, support with time away from work and access to real assignments and a project, and in most cases a substantial contribution to the costs of the programme. These people have been identified as having high potential, and the MBA is a vehicle for accelerating their development. This option enables participants to stay in their existing role (and many even manage to cope with promotion or relocation during the programme) and to increase their visibility and contribution within the organisation while studying for their MBA.

    Description of course
The executive MBA is offered jointly by MBS and Manchester School of Management at Umist and can be taken in 2.5 to 5 years. The benefit for a practising manager and the company sponsor is that the participant can gain credits at a rate that suits his or her working circumstances.

The MBA can be achieved either full-time or part-time in two distinct stages: the diploma and MBA. Participants must successfully complete 18 credits. A typical student takes two credits per term, completing the degree in just under three years. During the diploma, each course lasts for 10 weeks, with a weekly three-hour teaching session either on Tuesday or Thursday evening, or during the day on Friday. During the MBA, participants accumulate credits by undertaking specialist electives, projects, a dissertation or international programmes.

The Oxford MBA programme consists of three 10-week terms. In general, mornings are devoted to lectures on managerial subjects and the key issues affecting business. Afternoons consist of support classes, seminars, case discussions and private study.

During the first term there is a series of sessions on group and leadership processes, data analysis and computing. In the second term, students begin work on the new business development project and attend sessions on business communication and presentations. In the third term students select three advanced electives in which to specialise.

In July and August, students spend eight weeks on their summer business projects, many of which take place overseas. Students return to Oxford in September for a final two-week session in which they complete written reports, make presentations on their summer business projects, and take their final exam.

    Description of the course
The Trinity MBA programme is divided into 10 core areas: business policy, general management, impact of the environment, marketing, accounting, management of IS, organisational theory, financing of business enterprises, change management, quantitative methods.

During the year students are assigned to work in teams of five or six on a company project. This gives them the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned, and exposes them to a range of contexts (family businesses, new ventures, large firms, co-operatives, multinationals and semi-state bodies).

As part of the project, students assess the company's strengths and weaknesses in the context of the market. They also carry out an in-depth analysis of a particular strategic issue and recommend how that issue might be tackled. Members of each group are required to present their findings to faculty and management of the company, with written reports at each stage. Students also complete a business culture project and a personal research essay.
