Over the next five years a new breed of CIO will move into key corporate positions and be more likely to become CEO, according to a new report. Sense and sensitivities: IT leadership in practice, conducted by CIO Connect and Spencer Stuart in association with HP, follows a spate of doom and gloom studies predicting the demise of the CIO role and reveals the strategies, attributes and attitude needed to make it to the top.
The key, our study finds, is the integration of IT and business. The study presents recommendations to help CIOs bridge the persistent divide between IT and business. As the scale of responsibilities and the scope of the CIO role increase, the characteristics of successful CIOs will start to mirror those of successful CEOs.
