Positioning the private equity portfolio company CEO for success

With money pouring into private equity funds, private equity firms and their portfolio companies have become magnets for top talent. Entrepreneurial-minded executives often are attracted to private equity roles because of the potential for a large financial reward and the relative freedom from the quarterly financial reporting required of public companies. Despite those attractions, not everyone is cut out to lead a portfolio company. This article explores the unique demands on the chief executive officer of a portfolio company and the leadership traits of the executives who are most likely to excel in this environment.
