Human resources in the boardroom

John Doyle, Claudia Kelly
February 2006

Spurred by heightened scrutiny on human capital issues, boards now have a better appreciation of the importance of human resources strategies. Yet, despite HR’s increased strategic importance, some boards continue to overlook the deployment of human capital as a strategic business weapon.

“Human resources in the boardroom” examines why having a strong HR perspective in the boardroom is more critical than ever. By asking business-driven questions about how the company manages its people and, by appointing outside HR executives to serve on the board, the article outlines how boards will be better prepared to meet their fiduciary duty to shareholders.
