Nicky Murray is a consultant in Spencer Stuart’s Leadership Advisory Services team, based in London. Nicky is an experienced adviser and coach, and an occupational and business psychologist who helps leaders unlock performance at moments of personal, collective and organizational transition. She brings extensive experience working with boards and senior leaders as they navigate critical issues, including top-team performance, CEO succession planning, coaching and development, executive transitions and culture. Nicky’s work spans many industries and geographies, with particular expertise in the financial services, private equity, automotive and technology sectors.
Highly accomplished, educated adviser with experience across the leadership spectrum
- Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Nicky was an associate partner at McKinsey and Company, where she leveraged her problem-solving and analytical toolkit in work with clients undergoing transformational change such as organizational redesigns, CEO transitions, demergers and M&A
- At McKinsey, her most recent major projects included supporting the new CEO of a UK-based government-owned company. Nicky worked with the new CEO, his executive team and the board to help them refresh the partnership between the board and executive team, redesign the top structure, and lay the foundation for long-term success. She also helped the president and board of a multinational financial institution redesign their organizational structure to bring it in line with their five-year strategic priorities.
- Previously, she was senior organizational development consultant at Investec Plc, where she advised senior leaders and the board of Investec Wealth and Investment on boosting its ability to perform, learn and thrive during a critical transition of the founding partners and a demerger of asset management.
- Nicky also has leadership experience as former board director, corporate affairs and external relations, for the Association for Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision (APECS) and board trustee of the Infertility Network UK.
Nicky has myriad professional certificates and civic affiliations related to psychology, executive coaching and organizational design, and is a past non-executive director for the Association for Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision. In 2016 she was awarded the Indigo Gold Work Psychology Innovation Award. She received her BA in economics and English from the University of Cape Town, a post-graduate degree in business administration from the Wits Business School in Johannesburg, a master’s in business coaching and change from INSEAD, and a masters of science in occupational and business psychology at Kingston University. Nicky is an accredited master executive and team coach with APECS and registered with the British Psychology Society.
