John Mitchell currently leads Spencer Stuart's Private Equity Practice for North America, working with private equity firms operating in a broad range of investment areas from mega deals to venture capital and, most often, the middle-market arena. In this role, he coordinates with clients and consultants across many industry, functional and regional sectors to bring the right resources to bear for diverse private equity clients.
Prior to assuming this role, he led the firm’s Life Sciences Practice for the Americas for 10 years while concurrently leading the firm’s global Medical Technology Practice. Leveraging his more than 30 years of experience in industry and executive search, he continues to work at the senior executive and board levels, primarily advising companies in life sciences and healthcare–whether global conglomerates, emerging firms, private equity-backed companies or start-ups. He also plays a key role in the firm’s North American Board & CEO Practice.
Before joining Spencer Stuart, John was a partner with another leading international executive search firm, where he served as the managing partner of its life sciences practice. He also served on the firm’s board of directors.
Prior to entering the search profession, John was a senior vice president of Efficient Health Systems, one of the fastest growing cost management/utilization review organizations in the managed care industry. Earlier in his career, he served as vice president and area manager of American Hospital Supply Corporation, becoming the youngest company officer elected in the history of this market-leading company. His functional experience has included general management, marketing and sales, strategic planning and business development.
A graduate of Bowling Green State University, John holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
