John Bell is a member of Spencer Stuart’s Technology, Communications & Media and Information Officer practices. Based in Washington, D.C., he works with technology and communications clients to identify world-class executives across all functional areas and sectors. John recently has been appointed a lead consultant in the higher education vertical focused on recruitment for chief information officers for colleges and universities throughout North America.
Prior to Spencer Stuart, John held a variety of senior-level roles at companies such as IBM, GTE/Verizon, AT&T and NTT/Verio. He has extensive experience in direct and indirect sales, marketing, business development, strategic planning and general management, both domestically and globally. His vertical expertise is in the areas of healthcare, financial services and higher education. Most recently, he specialized in turning around under-performing assets and leading them through transformation to high-growth, cost-efficient, client-responsive organizations.
During John’s tenure at NTT/Verio, the company was the recipient of many awards for excellence from VARBusiness Magazine and the Web Marketing Association. He is a member and active participant of Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the technology councils of both Maryland (TCM) and Northern Virginia (NVTC).
John is a frequent speaker in technology and venture forums in the Mid-Atlantic area and has presented at industry conferences nationwide on the topics of sales management, alternate channel management and marketing.
John received his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the College of the Holy Cross.
