A former media and information services industry executive, Harry Somerdyk is a core member of Spencer Stuart’s global Technology, Media & Communications Practice. Previously, he served as the managing director of the firm’s fourth largest office in Stamford, Connecticut.
Harry joined Spencer Stuart in 1999 as a consultant and brings 20 years of senior management experience in consumer and business-to-business publishing, digital media and start-up companies.
Harry conducts executive searches for media, information services and Internet-based companies at the CEO, COO, general management and board levels. He has worked with such clients as Advance Communications, Bertelsmann, Daily Mail and General Trust, DMGI, Google, Gruner + Jahr, Financial Times, International Data Group, Journal Communications, Microsoft, Primedia, Reader’s Digest, R.H. Donnelley, LexisNexis, Reed Elsevier, Reuters, Rodale, Sun-Times Media Group, The Times Mirror Company, TV Guide, Univision and Wolters Kluwer, among others.
Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Harry was the senior vice president of marketing and brand development at Business Week magazine. At Business Week, he was responsible for the global management of the magazine's brand advertising and communications efforts, its web-based business units and its conferences and executive programs division.
Harry's background includes roles as publisher of Digital News & Review, director of sales and marketing at Air Miles, advertising director of Prodigy, and senior advertising sales and marketing positions at Fortune magazine. He began his career in publishing in the media research unit of Reader's Digest.
Harry is a former member of the marketing committee of the Magazine Publishers Association, and a past board member of the nonprofit Students in Free Enterprise. He was appointed to the Area Nine Cable Council in Connecticut in 2007. He is an honors graduate of Boston University's School of Communications.
