James J. Buckley

Jim Buckley is a member of the firm's Board Services Practice and the Technology, Communications & Media Practice, which he led for four years. He possesses an extensive background in the computer hardware, software, e-learning, business process outsourcing and networking arenas. He served as chairman, CEO and president of the $160 million public CBT Group Plc., a global leader in the publishing, development and distribution of computer-based training software for IT professionals. Most notably, Jim spent 11 years with Apple Computer (1985 to 1996), where he held various executive team positions such as senior vice president of Apple Computer and president of Apple Americas. In Jim’s early career, he worked for Exxon Office Systems and Xerox, directing large account programs and strategies.

Jim has led senior executive search and board assignments in leading technology companies such as AOL, Juniper Networks, Gateway, Ceridian, Hewlett Packard, TiVo, Thomson-Reuters Corporation, Ingram Micro, Yahoo!, Sony, Blackboard, Apple Computer, VeriSign, Leapfrog Enterprises, TechData, Sandisk Corporation, Palm, Intuit, eBay and Red Hat, to name a few. Jim’s functional expertise is in the areas of CEOs, presidents, CFOs, and senior sales leaders, as well as board directors. Jim was a recipient of the annual Lou Rieger Quality Award for the firm’s Silicon Valley office.

Jim has served as a Microsoft Higher Education Scholar and on the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) Technology Editorial Board. He currently serves on the Georgetown University School of Business board of advisers and the advisory board of Innerworkings. He also previously served on the Stanford Advisory Council for Libraries and Information Resources, the National Association of School Boards Foundation, Babcock Graduate School of Management board of visitors at Wake Forest University, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut, the Chicago Association of Commerce & Industry, and the boards of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago and the Special Wish Foundation in Chicago.

Jim holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Iona College, New Rochelle, New York, and completed graduate work in marketing at both Iona and Pace universities in New York. Jim and his wife reside in Silicon Valley and have three grown children.
