The Conference Board of Canada/Spencer Stuart National Awards in Governance

As founding partners of the National Awards in Governance, Spencer Stuart and The Conference Board of Canada are committed to enhancing governance practices in Canada by raising the profile of active and innovative boards and showcasing their accomplishments. Since 2001, the National Awards in Governance have recognized Canadian organizations with boards of directors that have demonstrated excellence in governance and have implemented successful innovations in their governance practices. Criteria used to evaluate innovations in governance include those that:

  • Have enhanced governance practices
  • Have yielded tangible results for the organization
  • Can be applied by other organizations to good effect
“While the governance rules and regulations may bring about compliance, it is the commitment to finding better ways that produces better organizations and performance,” says Andrew MacDougall, the co–founder of the awards program and the manager of Spencer Stuart’s Toronto office. “ The winners serve as a motivational example that a team’s hard work and dedication makes a tangible difference.”

An award is given to an organization in each of the public, private and nonprofit sectors; in addition, one of these organizations also is honored as the overall winner of the year.
